Bromley started this game well and indeed finished strongly, but in between times, they struggled to contain a more than capable Old Williamsonians side, who created all sorts of problems for their hosts.  An early interception by Steve Pillow was well closed down by Old Williamsonians but under pressure, they conceded a couple of penalties.  Steve Pillow missed a chance to convert the second but Bromley kept the momentum going and when a kick ahead by George Scott was collected by Freddie Bender it looked as if he would score.  Again, good defence held him up but Bromley recycled quickly and went through the phases and eventually Chris Copper went over for the try, converted by Steve Pillow with just five minutes on the clock.  Bromley looked as if they might carry on in this vein, but Old Williamsonians began to get into the game and were rewarded after 15 minutes when winger Mark Welch went over in the corner for a try.  Out half Callum Bowie missed the conversion.  For the remainder of the half, both sides battled it out, with lots of honest endeavour and entertaining rugby but not much in the way of scoring chances.

Bromley had the slope in the second half and soon took the game to Old Williamsonians but it was the visitors who struck first.  Inside centre Thomas Bishop had looked impressive all afternoon and his incisive break and well-timed pass to fellow centre Laurence Chittil set up the try of the day.  It deserved a better conversion but as it was, Old Williamsonians went 7-10 in front.  Their scrum had been pretty dominant all day and it was forward power that set up a second try for Mark Welch and this time, Callum Bowie got the conversion to make it 7-17.  However, a rush of blood to their collective heads cost them dear soon after.  Two high tackles were penalised, the second of which saw Callum Bowie cooling his heels for ten minutes.  Steve Pillow kicked the resultant penalty to put Bromley back in touch.  This set up a grandstand finish and Bromley had a series of scrums on the Old Williamsonians line.  Eventually, the pressure was too much and a penalty try made it 17-17 with minutes to go.  Bromley finished the game camped on the Old Williamsonians line but try as they might, they could not get the final score to see them home.

Bromley next play at Thetford in the next round of the RFU Senior Vase on 12th January, kick off is at 2pm.
